2010 Starry Nights concert series announced

Celebrating its 24th year, the Starry Nights Concert Series will return this summer to the Marie Irwin Bandshell in Homewood’s Irwin Park. Thanks to the Homewood-Flossmoor Park District, three shows are on tap for this summer: the Piano Man (Elton John/Billy Joel tribute) on Friday, June 11; Elevation (U2 tribute) on Friday, June 25; and Pink Houses (John Cougar Mellencamp tribute) on Friday, July 23.

June 11: Piano Man — This concert includes is a tribute to two classic songwriters: Elton John and Billy Joel. The show includes full costumes, set design and props. Every song is a hit, ensuring an unforgettable music experience. View a song list, video clips and more at pianomanusa.net. Opening act for this show will be Greta Pope (gretapope.com).

June 25: Elevation — This four-person band has been covering U2’s greatest songs for more than a decade. Watch them recreate the music and attitudes of one of the biggest concert bands around. View a song list, video clips and more at tribute2U2.com. Opening act for this show will be the 2009 Homewood Idol winner, Rachael Robertson.

July 23: Pink Houses — Enjoy America’s most elaborate and musically accurate John Mellencamp tribute band. This 10-person band plays everything from early John Cougar classics to recent John Mellencamp favorites. View a song list, video clips and more at pinkhouses.net. Opening act for this show will be local favorites, Moco Magana (mocomaganaband.com).

Concert goers at this lawn-seating event can purchase snacks, dinner and dessert from vendors Aurelio’s Pizza; Lassen’s Sports Bar & Grill; Mitchell’s Ice Cream & Soda Shop; and Cilantro. Beer, wine, pop and margaritas will be sold by the park district.

Advance tickets per show are $7/adults and $5/children ages 3-15. Tickets can be purchased beginning Friday, May 3, at 708-957-0300 or 708-957-PARK, or in person at the Goldberg Center, 3301 Flossmoor Road, or the Irwin Center, 18120 Highland Ave. Day-of-show tickets will be an additional $3 each.
